How to Prep Your Home for a Move-Out Cleaning
What a move-out clean covers, and what it does not
A move-out clean has one job: get the deposit back, or get the home ready for its next owner. The standard scope is the empty home: floors, baseboards, kitchen appliances inside and out, cabinets and drawers wiped, bathrooms descaled, window sills, doors, and walls spot-checked. It happens after the furniture is gone, because that is the only way to reach the places a landlord or buyer looks at first. The house cleaning service page lists the full scope.
It does not cover repair work or hazards such as mold. If furniture and boxes are still in every room, that is a different job: a general deep clean while you are still living there.
The week-of checklist
- Empty every room first. Cleaning around furniture costs time and misses the spots that matter.
- Book the cleaners after the movers leave, not before.
- Utilities stay on through the cleaning day; vacuums and hot water are part of the job.
- Clear the garage and patio too, or agree in advance that they are out of scope.
- Do a final walkthrough in daylight, so marks and scuffs are visible.
How to time it with movers and walkthroughs
The sequence that works: movers out, cleaners in, walkthrough last. If you are using a moving and labor crew, book the cleaning for the same day, a few hours after the truck leaves. A landlord inspection or buyer walkthrough the next morning is realistic; an hour after the cleaners finish is not, because you want time to spot anything that needs a second pass.
If the home fails the walkthrough
Deposit disputes usually come down to a short list: oven interior, shower glass, floors, and anything the landlord wrote on the move-in report. If you know an item is on that list, say so when booking. A cleaner told about the oven on Monday arrives with oven cleaner; a cleaner told on Saturday, after the walkthrough, is too late.
Check your city price before you book
Cleaning prices scale by city, and the ranges are published. Compare Torrance, Downey, West Covina, El Monte, or Santa Clarita, and remember the quote is confirmed on site before work starts.
